The BSS Soundweb London BLU-BIB Break-In Box provides 8 channels of analog mic/line input expansion for compatible Soundweb London audio systems.
Designed for distributed audio installations, the BLU-BIB allows microphones and line-level sources to be connected at a remote location and transported digitally over the Soundweb London 256-channel digital audio bus to compatible system devices.
Each of the eight analog inputs provides front-panel gain adjustment, phantom power control, signal indication, and clip monitoring, while rear-panel DIP switches are used to assign the unit's eight consecutive digital audio bus channels.
8-Channel Mic/Line Input Expansion
The BLU-BIB provides eight analog mic/line-level inputs using terminal block connections.
This allows microphones and other analog audio sources to be connected remotely from the primary Soundweb London processing equipment, reducing the need for long individual analog cable runs between equipment locations.
256-Channel Digital Audio Bus
Audio from the BLU-BIB is transported over a 256-channel, low-latency digital audio bus using standard Category 5e cabling.
Compatible devices can be located up to 100 meters apart using Cat 5e cable.
For installations requiring substantially longer distances, the compatible BSS Audio MC-1 fiber optic media converter can extend the digital audio bus over single-mode fiber for distances exceeding 10 km (6.2 miles).
DIP Switch Channel Assignment
Unlike Soundweb London devices that require software configuration, BLU-BIB channel assignment is performed directly on the hardware.
Six rear-panel DIP switches allow the installer to select a consecutive group of eight channels from the 256-channel digital audio bus.
The BLU-BIB is not configured through HiQnet London Architect. Channel assignments are made using the rear-panel DIP switches.
Front-Panel Input Controls
Each of the eight input channels provides front-panel controls and indicators for setup and monitoring.
Functions include:
-
Individual input gain adjustment
-
Individual phantom power control
-
Signal Present indication
-
Clip indication
-
Phantom power status
-
Applied gain indication
This allows input levels and microphone power to be configured directly from the BLU-BIB without requiring software control.
Edit, Normal and Stealth Modes
The BLU-BIB provides three operating modes to control access to its front-panel functions.
Edit Mode allows input gain and phantom power settings to be changed.
Normal Mode prevents changes to gain and phantom power settings, helping protect the established configuration during normal operation.
Stealth Mode prevents configuration changes while also disabling front-panel LEDs other than the power indicator. This can be useful where visible indicators are undesirable or access to the unit needs to be restricted.
Flexible Installation Options
The BLU-BIB uses a compact half-rack chassis that can be installed in several ways depending on the application.
Wall-mount brackets are included, allowing the unit to be installed near remote audio sources. It can also be mounted under a table or installed in an equipment rack using the appropriate optional BSS Audio rack-mount hardware.

Why Choose the BSS BLU-BIB?
The BSS BLU-BIB provides a practical way to add eight remotely located analog mic/line inputs to a compatible Soundweb London system.
Its combination of a 256-channel digital audio bus, hardware-based channel assignment, individual gain and phantom power controls, and compact half-rack chassis makes it particularly useful for distributed installations where analog sources are located away from the main audio processing equipment.
