Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will this system work with my guitar/bass? A: Yes, the SLXD14+ works with virtually any electric guitar, bass, acoustic-electric, or instrument with 1/4" output jack. The 1 MΩ input impedance matches passive and active pickups perfectly.
Q: Does it sound exactly like a cable? A: Yes, when properly set up, the 24-bit digital transmission is transparent and indistinguishable from a quality instrument cable. Unlike analog wireless, there's no companding, no high-frequency rolloff, and no tone coloration.
Q: What's the latency? Will I notice delay? A: Latency is <4 ms (milliseconds), which is imperceptible to human hearing. For reference, this is less delay than standing 4 feet away from your amplifier. Professional guitarists and bassists use SLXD+ systems with zero latency concerns.
Q: How long do the batteries last? A: Up to 8 hours on two AA alkaline batteries at 10mW RF power, or up to 10 hours at 1mW. The optional SB903 rechargeable battery also provides 8 hours and can be recharged in 3 hours.
Q: Can I use rechargeable AA batteries instead of alkaline? A: Yes, but Shure's SB903 lithium-ion rechargeable battery (sold separately) is specifically designed for SLXD+ and provides accurate battery metering, better performance, and faster charging than standard AA rechargeables.
Q: What's the operating range? A: Up to 330 feet (100m) line of sight. Actual range depends on RF environment, physical obstacles, and whether you use 1mW or 10mW transmitter power. For most stage applications, 10mW provides ample range with headroom.
Q: Can I run multiple systems simultaneously? A: Yes, depending on your frequency band, you can run 11-14 SLXD systems in a 6-8 MHz TV band. For more systems or guaranteed coordination, use Wireless Workbench® software to calculate optimal frequencies.
Q: What does the "G57" in the model number mean? A: G57 is the frequency band designation. Different regions use different frequency bands based on local spectrum regulations. Verify that G57 is the correct band for your country/region before purchasing. Other common bands include G50, H55, J53, L50, etc.
Q: Will this work with active pickups (EMG, Seymour Duncan, etc.)? A: Absolutely. The SLXD1+ bodypack handles high-output active pickups with ease. Simply reduce the input gain to -5 to -10 dB to prevent clipping. The system has sufficient headroom for even the hottest outputs.
Q: Can I use this with a pedalboard? A: Yes. Connect the receiver's 1/4" output (set to LINE mode) to the input of your pedalboard. Your wireless signal will feed through your effects chain normally. Alternatively, some players put the bodypack transmitter after their pedalboard (requires additional cable setup).
Q: Does it work with stereo instruments or keyboards? A: The SLXD14+ is a mono system (one channel). For stereo keyboards or instruments with stereo output, you need two complete systems (one for left, one for right). Many keyboard players use mono wireless since most live PA is summed to mono anyway.
Q: Is the G57 band legal in my country? A: Wireless microphone frequency regulations vary by country. The G57 band is available in certain regions but may not be legal everywhere. Check with your local spectrum authority or Shure dealer to confirm the correct band for your location before purchasing.
Q: Can I upgrade firmware on the transmitter and receiver? A: Yes, both receiver and transmitter firmware can be updated via Wireless Workbench® software. The receiver updates via Ethernet connection, and the transmitter can update wirelessly via ShowLink® Ease or through direct connection to the receiver.
Q: What if I need more than one wireless instrument system? A: Purchase additional SLXD14+ systems (one receiver + one bodypack per instrument). You can also buy components individually: additional SLXD4+ receivers and SLXD1+ bodypacks. Use Wireless Workbench® to coordinate frequencies across multiple systems.
